About Rogoznica

Rogoznica is a special place, and many people from all walks of life make it their favorite summer location. Small and intimate, it is easily accessible (only 35km from an international airport in Split (SPU)). Due to favorable local climate, the area has one of the highest number of sunny days on the Croatian coast.

The old city promenade is dotted with more than a dozen restaurants, to suit every budget. Sailing yachts pour into the city in the evening to have their dinner; fresh seafood is provided by a fleet of fishing boats that go out every day. You can walk around the island in less than 1h and the beaches are plentiful. Rogoznica has one of the most generous ratios between the number of guests and km of the coastline suitable for swimming. And the sea is beautiful, clean, warm and safe. Whether you want to be active or kick back and enjoy, Rogoznica will not disappoint.

Zmajevo oko (Dragon’s Eye Lake)

1.5km, easy 20 min walk

Lake Dragon’s Eye is a unique geohydromorphological phenomenon that has developed distinctive flora and fauna because of its special physical and chemical properties. The lake is surrounded by sheer cliffs up to twenty-four meters high. The lake has no visible surface connections with the surrounding sea, but lake and seawater both seep through cracks and channels in the porous limestone. Because of the unique environment of Lake Dragon’s Eye, with its thick bottom layer of hydrogen sulfide, many local and foreign scientists have studied it in recent years.

Local festivals

Throughout the summer

A number of local traditions and cultural events can be enjoyed throughout the summer season. Some are very old, such as the celebration of Our Lady of Chapel or Awakening of the Dragon carnival. Others, like annual tuna fest, concerts and dance performances are more recent traditions.

UNESCO cities

Sibenik, Trogir, Split, Zadar

Old cities of Sibenik and Trogir are only 1/2 h scenic drive away. Add another 30 min and you can reach Zadar and Split. Each one of these cities is a gem of the traditional Dalmatian culture with Italian influences. Make sure you explore narrow side streets full of small local shops, galleries and cafes.

40 km drive or day trip by boat

Extending along the 73km Krka River, Krka National Park runs from the Adriatic near Šibenik inland to the mountains of the Croatian interior. It’s a magical place of waterfalls and gorges, with the river gushing through a karstic canyon 200m deep. Sights built by humans are also a major draw of the region, the area’s remoteness attracting monks who constructed their monasteries here.

As a more modern point of interest, the park houses the second oldest hydroelectric power plant in the world. Tesla designed plant opened 2 days after the Niagara falls.
